Jake Goes Peanuts by Michael Wright is a deliciously outlandish tale.
Jake is the definition of a picky eater. He only eats peanut butter. “And if he tasted something new, he’d spit that thing right out.” Jakes parents come up with a plan – they’ll add peanut butter to every meal. Jake eagerly accepts the deal, but after a week of “peanut butter pot roast/served with peanut butter rice” and “peanut butter soda/chilled with peanut butter ice,” Jake’s appreciation for peanut butter begins to dwindle. Children will be delighted by the rhyming text – there are sure to be giggles over “peanut butter poop.” The bright, bold cartoon illustrations will also illicit giggles. This is a deliciously goofy tale that just might encourage picky eaters to try something new.
Recommended for Pre-school – 2nd Grade.
